I don't want a reservation with the randomly assigned IP address. It just ignores the reservation and continues using the existing DHCP lease until it expires or is flushed out and a new lease is created but not from the reserved address.ĭoes anyone have any idea what I'm talking about here and how to resolve it?Īlso, it drives me bonkers that if i right-click a lease, choand ose to turn into a reservation I cannot then goto the properties and change the IP address. If I take an existing lease, right click it and choose to create a reservation it will input the identifier exactly as it was registered and from there I should be able to assign a reserved IP. Some people suggested just make the reservation like as if I would with a mac address but use the identifier instead, and it should work. I tried making the change it suggested but no dice. There are some references to editing files on the Ubuntu/Debian VMs that basically tell DHCP service to use the hardware address instead. I've read that it has to do with how Ubuntu/Debian request DHCP and that it is presenting an Identifier that is representative of the system rather then the ethernet NIC, which sounds great in theory, because what if the NIC is changed ? Well I cannot figure out how to change it back to using the MAC address, nor can I figure out how to make DHCP reservations work properly with this identifier. I noticed that all my Ubuntu and Debian VMs which were set to use DHCP arent registering their MAC Addresses, but instead some longer identifier. So im not a completely lazy fool who hasnt googled the sh*t out of this but I cannot figure out how to resolve for the life of me.
